How To Complete A Yearly, Seasonal, And Weekly Review

Inside: I walk you through the steps of a yearly, seasonal, and weekly review that will support you in living intentionally. I also share resources that will support you along the way.

Want to live on purpose? Yearly, seasonal, and weekly reviews are essential for an intentional, soul-honouring life.

The regular reviews mean that you never get pulled far off track. You’ll check in regularly enough to stay focused on who you choose to be in the world and what you truly want.

The following overview is offered to support you in crafting a soul-honouring life and making space for a yearly, seasonal, and weekly review (or visioning time). It does not cover every single thing that I personally use or that is included in my Guided Life Visioning Training but it will take you far. IF you apply the information.

Inner wisdom + practical action = a soul-honouring life

All of the Life Visioning work that I teach involves a dance between intuition or listening inward to our inner wisdom, and a commitment to consistent practical action.

It’s in the tension between a) spaciousness to listen inward and receive insight and inspiration (and self-trust), and b) the practical action steps and gentle structure that bring a vision to life, that I experience ease, flow, and joy.

All this means is that we need to make space for both being and doing. For right-brain, creative, intuitive processing and also left-brain, logical, linear planning and bringing tasks to completion. One isn’t more valuable than the other.

However, given that we live in a culture that promotes constant productivity at the expense of our health, you will probably need to work harder at weaving ample rest and spaciousness into your life. And, importantly, at reconnecting to your inner voice and wisdom and trusting what you hear.

The resources I mention in the overview

Here are the primary resources I refer to in the yearly, seasonal, and weekly reviews. In the Seasonal Review section, I have included additional resources about seasonal living, menstrual cycle tracking, lunar tracking, and menopause.

1. The Handcrafting a Life Vision Flow Chart. Download below.

Learn more about the different parts of this flowchart on this page of my website: How To Handcraft A Soul-Honouring life Step-By-Step | A Life In Progress.

2. Seasonal transition call notes: Received with the seasonal transition call or purchase the notes below in the Seasonal Review section. Join future Seasonal Transition Calls or get them free as a member of the Brave + Beautiful Community.

3. The Purposeful Printable Pack (referred to as the PPP in the overview): The Purposeful Printable Pack | A Life In Progress or purchase below in the Seasonal Review section.

4. True Rest Through The Seasons (free resource) which focuses on seasons of the life cycle: True Rest Through The Seasons: Free Resource | A Life In Progress.

5. Seasonal Mindfulness Journals: 52 Mondays: Seasonal Mindfulness Journals | A Life In Progress – or the digital (PDF) version of the journals can be purchased here.

1. The Yearly Review

Purpose: To reflect on the past year, spend time dreaming and listening inward for wisdom and direction, then set new goals/intentions for the 12 months ahead.

Timing: Conduct this review once a year when it makes sense for you. I do my primary Life Visioning around summer solstice at my birthday.

Helpful Resource: Sense of purpose is tied to higher life satisfaction, wellbeing, and longevity. And, purpose is actually far simpler than most people think. Purpose helps “quiet the noise” of life. Read this post about what it means to live on purpose.

Yearly review action steps

  1. Life visioning flowchart, WHY: Listen inward for any wise guidance you may need to hear about how to live on purpose or walk out your core values in the year to come. *you could use the Wheel of Intention PDF in the PPP
  2. Life visioning flowchart, WHAT: Choose a new mantra and 3-5 MBSIs for the year ahead. Make sure they align with your core values.
  3. Life visioning flowchart, WHAT: Set goals or intentions for the year and break them down into small, actionable steps. Make sure your goals align with your mantra and/or MBSIs. Or think about how you will show up to your goals in a way that helps you feel the way you want to feel in your body and life. Also, make sure that your goals or plans take into account the season you are (in your life cycle). *you could use the goal setting worksheets and financial intentions PDF in the PPP.
  4. Life visioning flowchart, HOW: review your Circle of Impact, make changes as necessary. Shore up leaky boundaries.
  5. Life visioning flowchart, HOW: review and update your soul-honouring weekly rhythm and am/pm routines, as needed. Be honest about your wiring and capacity in this season. *you could use the weekly rhythm PDF and Dawn/Dusk Rituals PDF in the PPP
  6. Life visioning flowchart, HOW: look at the year ahead and block out time for rest. Ensure you have daily and weekly rest woven into your life as well as other times for intentional rest throughout the year. *As extra encouragement to practice true rest, you could use the True Rest through the seasons resource for examples of rest that you might want to explore or practice this year depending on the season of life (life cycle) that you are in

You can buy the Purposeful Printable Pack: $25 USD

For people who still prefer putting pen to paper. You’ll immediately receive an email with the link to download the worksheet bundle. Check junk, spam, and promotions if you don’t see this email within a couple of minutes. No refunds are available.

2. The Seasonal Review

Purpose: To assess progress towards goals and choose your next small steps, adapt to shifting circumstances or needs, and otherwise ensure that you are living in a way that feels soul-honouring and values-aligned.

Timing: Conduct this review at the end of each season or around the seasonal shift.

Helpful Resource: In the Brave + Beautiful Community I guide members though a seasonal transition call at each seasonal shift. And members get to work though a Seasonal Living Foundations course. The Seasonal Mindfulness Journals will support you in becoming more mindful of how you feel, and what supports your mind-body health, as you move through the year.

Seasonal review action steps

  1. Remind yourself of your mantra for the year, your MBSIs (mind-body-spirit intentions) for the year, and your core values: is your life in alignment with these? If not, what do you want to change or do differently?
  2. Look at your goals for the year and choose the next small action steps that will move you closer to goal completion?
  3. Reflection/journaling questions (from the seasonal call notes). Or, this page offers prompts to help you end your year on purpose and this page offers 10 questions for when life is messy.
  4. Look back: Think about the season that is coming to an end. What did/did not work well, what did you learn, what do you want to remember for next year (do you need to add this to a master list/doc of seasonal tasks?), and so on. Name at least 3 things you did well this past season and celebrate your progress in some way.
  5. Look ahead. Think about the coming season and journal/brainstorm what will support you in living with freedom, health, and joy in the next few months, given what you already know about your wiring and capacity. Remember how you want to FEEL in your body and life in the season to come. If applicable, use the ideas in the Seasonal Call notes to support your reflection. *If there are any habits or practices you want to focus on, you could use one of the habit trackers in the PPP and/or you could track using the Seasonal Mindfulness Journals
  6. Life visioning flowchart, HOW: You might want to do a seasonal declutter. This could include decluttering stuff and commitments, but also relationships or mindsets/beliefs that no longer serve you. *you could use the “declutter 100 things” PDF in the PPP

3. The Weekly Review

Purpose: To reflect on the past week, be proud of our small steps, track progress towards goals or health habits, and plan for the coming week.

Timing: Conduct this review at the end of each week.

Helpful Resource: The weekly rhythm workshop is a helpful tool for creating a weekly rhythm that honors your wiring and capacity and create space for what truly matters most to you.

Some planners have a weekly review built in. My favorite planners are these but these are also really nice.

A little side note: my nerdy brain likes to color code different events in my planner. Red=work, yellow=personal, green=family/seasonal; orange=deep work. And sometimes I use a fifth colour to signify tasks related to my current growth edge or focus.

Weekly review action steps

  1. List 3-5 ‘wins’ from this week or things you are proud of or that you did well.
  2. What worked well / what didn’t work well and why? (What could you do differently moving forward?)
  3. What will you continue or change?
  4. Write down a quote or word of encouragement for yourself. I often capture a thought/idea from recent reading or listening – something I want to mull over.
  5. Identify a few ways that you’ll focus on your health in the coming week (related to how you eat, sleep, move, rest, connect). Think about any habits, boundaries, or self-care practices that you want to focus on in this season or this month. *you could use the Sunday Intention Setting PDF in the PPP
  6. Clarify your “big 3’ or 3 priorities for the coming week If you are in a season of low capacity or live with chronic illness, you may want to focus on 1 priority for the week.

Now What?

I originally typed out this overview for a client and my Brave + Beautiful community members. However, I decided to share it here with you too.

Maybe you’ll dig in and weave all three reviews into your life – the yearly, seasonal, and weekly review or check-ins. Or you may want to begin with one. In that case, the weekly review is a great starting point.

And if you want deeper guidance and support as you learn how to practice a kinder, gentler way of being in your body and life, I invite you to join the Brave + Beautiful Community.
