Inside: It’s easy to dismiss the ordinariness of life: game nights and favorite desserts, bedtime stories and bubble baths, or walking to the corner store for frosty slurpees after a sticky soccer match. But simple moments matter.
When I was little, my dad took my sisters and I skidooing. We’d bundle up warmly and he’d pull us on a wooden sleigh behind the used Ski-Doo that always smelled of gasoline. We’d tumble off in turn despite holding on for dear life. He’d circle back or we’d trudge through the snow to catch up.
Eventually we’d get too cold so he’d unzip the top of his snowsuit, pull off our sticky mittens, and warm our small icy hands under his armpits like only a dad knows how to do.
Then we’d all head back to his office for a packet of hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows.
Some memories are forever.
It’s easy to dismiss the ordinariness of life: game nights and favorite desserts, bedtime stories and bubble baths, or walking to the corner store for frosty slurpees after a sticky soccer match.
We may feel our lives are not enough. Perhaps we wish we’d have had more money or opportunity to offer our kids when they were little. But back rubs and dancing in the kitchen, playing video games together or laughing around a humble meal – these simple moments matter.
